Kattameya Observatory Ride 2013, part II

Ridden September 27, 2013

This one was a remarkable improvement over the early year′s ride, which nobody finished. Yesterday we counted up to 20 cyclists at the Toll Booth, 16 of them made it to the summit (record) and 6 to the Greco (see photos). There were only 4 flat tires, also an improvement. Total distance was 145 km (2 km shorter than before thanks to Mr. Shortcut & Co.), elevation 1056 m, average temp. 23C, and cross wind (NW 11 kmh). Missing any stats?

Summit Finishers, from left: Omar, Dave, Omar, Ibrahim, Nick, Mike, Sami, Mohamed, Luis, Dan, Lars, Erhard, Jun, Joe, Paul & Thomas.

Summit finishers, from left: Omar I, Omar II, Dave, Ibrahim, Nick, Mike, Sami, Mohamed, Luis, Dan, Lars, Erhard, Jun, Joe, Paul & Thomas.

The logistics provided by Nick, Jun and Thomas were superb, thanks a lot for making the ride possible!

The awards go to:

K.O.M. (polka dot jersey): Nick, for third consecutive victory in the Observatory climb, with record time of 8:58”!

Best sprinter (green jersey): Sami Al Hadid, new leader of the classification after 3 consecutive stages.

Best youngster (white jersey): as above

Individual time-trial (rainbow jersey): Thomas for his 46 km solo effort on the way back, inspired by his compatriot T. Martin`s gold medal in the world championships this week in the discipline (beating Wiggins and Cancellara).

Lanterne Rouge: Erhard, for his come-back after 3 months, coming to the picture in the last minute before the time limit, but making it to the summit. Thumbs up.

Best Kiwi: Dan, because the other Kiwi stayed mourning the America Cup.

Best Domestique: Paul, for pulling the Commonwealth riders into the sprint (work in vain); apart from being the best Aussi.

Best Oldie (wool jersey): Mike, for not having missed any Observatory ride since creation .

My compliments also go to all the others, for their enthusiasm and great effort. Thank you, and keep the saddle side up.

Luis
